Grants & Programs

Smile Train funds thousands of partners and programs throughout the world that help poor children receive treatment they could otherwise never afford.

  • Treatment Partnerships

Smile Train Treatment Partners are provided financial support and other resources for the surgical treatment of clefts. Our partnership model empowers local surgeons to treat cleft patients in their own communities who would otherwise not be able to afford this life-changing surgery.

  • Comprehensive Treatment Grants

Smile Train’s vision is to ensure every child born with a cleft can lead a full and productive life. One key to achieving this are critical follow-up care services such as nutritional support, speech therapy, and orthodontic treatments which many of our patients require before and after surgery. These grants enable patients to receive these important services which otherwise might not be possible.

  • Education and Training Grants

A cornerstone of Smile Train's unique model for empowering local health professionals is Smile Train commitment to education and training. With our funding, medical doctors, even in the poorest countries, have access to world-class educational opportunities, which helps improve the skills, safety and quality of care provided.

  • Equipment Grants

Safety and quality are paramount to Smile Train. Equipment Grants provide funding for everything from cleft instrument sets to pulse oximeters to vans, which help transport patients or help medical professionals expand their reach. These grants allow recipients to improve quality as well as increase the number of children being helped.

  • Smile Grants

While Smile Train predominantly focuses on medical treatment, this program supports extremely disadvantaged families who would never make it to the hospital for treatment without additional financial support. The funding from this grant helps minimize the burden on families by helping cover expenses such as the costs of traveling to/from the hospital, food and shelter during their stay, as well as support to offset a parent’s lost wages during this time.

  • Awareness Grants

Awareness grants help Smile Train partners publicize and educate the public about clefts and the free cleft surgery programs available to them through Smile Train, thus reducing the stigma and driving thousands of patients to our partner hospitals.
